CHARLESTON and OTTER CREEK – Anita Merchant went home to our heavenly father 9 a.m. July 22, 2011, in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born at home in Otter Creek, to Samuel M. Walls and Emma Albee Walls. She was the last of nine children.
Anita graduated from Gilmore High School, Mount Desert, in 1943. Anita met Dyer L. Merchant Sr. in Bar Harbor after the war and they married in 1947. They were married for 43 years. He predeceased her in 1991. She was a wonderful mother and friend.
Anita leaves behind eight children, Linda, Samuel, Dyer Jr., Rosanne and husband, Bob, Elaine and husband, Keith, John and wife, Suki, Robert and wife, Sharon, and Ruth and husband, Mark; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. No words can say how much we will miss you Mom. We hold on to God’s promise to meet again someday.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are invited to call 1 p.m. until the time of service.
