ELLSWORTH – Norma E. Couture, 86, wife of the late Rev. Reginald E. Couture, passed away July 25, 2011, with her family at her side. She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Long Pond, daughter of John Baker and Marion E. (Brewer) Hudson.
She attended Waterville High School, then completed her schooling for registered nursing through the Cadet Nurse Corps at Episcopal School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Her nursing career included working at the old Thayer Hospital, Waterville, Mayo Memorial Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. Norma was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star, Irene Chapter No. 97, holding various station points during her active membership. As the wife of the minister, as well as a member of Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls, Norma was very active in all aspects of the church, including various clubs and activities. It was natural for her to find ways to cheer and care for all of those around her. She will be remembered most for the twinkle in her eyes and the smile on her face.
Norma is survived by her children, Frederick Hodgdon of Hamilton, Mont., Daryl Hodgdon and wife, Karen, of Hancock, Jill Eyre and husband, Marty, of Raymond, Jane Donnell and husband, Tim, of Calais, Regina Lacerda and husband, Steven, of Hartland, and John Couture of Ellsworth; stepson, Andy Couture of Lewiston; grandchildren, Lisa Jones, Michael Hodgdon and Erin Donnell; stepgrandchildren, Jeremy Couture, Amanda Couture, Alex Couture and Jordan Couture; and great-grandson, Hunter Jones.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls, with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating.
