LINCOLN – Norman L. Ware, 87, husband of the late Maxine (Downs) Ware, passed away July 26, 2011, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born March 20, 1924, in Springfield, son of Lester W. and Rosetta (Thornton) Ware.

Norman was a veteran of World War II. He, for more than 50 years, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served as quartermaster for more than 40 years. He had served on Lincoln Town Council, and was a member of Coin Club, Congo Mens Club, The Lincoln Veterans Honor Guard and Community Evangel Temple. For 26 years, he was postmaster at Lincoln Center Post Office. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by two sons, Leigh R. Ware and his wife, Peggy, of Lincoln, and Terry W. Ware and his wife, Alice, of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandchildren, Leanne Berg and Danny Corriveau of Howland, Lisa Lee and Kevin of Lincoln, and Isaiah Ware of Sacramento, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Berg, Laci Berg and her fiance, Paul Bolduc, all of Lincoln, Reilly Berg of Howland, Mackenzie Lee and Hunter Lee, both of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special caregiver, Tina Whitney. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Ware.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Evangel Temple, River Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Jason Johnstone officiating. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Kid Care America.
