SEBEC – Henry “Hank” L. Hughes, 64, died July 28, 2011, in Milo. He was born March 10, 1947, in Brownville, the son of John and Velzora Hughes.

Hank served with the U.S. Army in Saigon, Vietnam, as an airplane mechanic. He was a member of J.P. Chaisson American Legion Post No. 41. “Hammerin’ Hank” was a local musical celebrity with fans throughout the state. He often performed with the Maine Academy of Country Music, and participated in festivals and jamborees every month. Hank was a born entertainer, whether or not he was on stage. He had a ready smile and an infectious laugh. Hank had a big heart and a beautiful soul, and will be missed by so many.

Hank was predeceased by his wife, Maxine Hughes, in 1995; two brothers, Johnny Hughes and Maurice Hughes; and a sister, Bunny Cates. He is survived by a daughter, Gail R. Delaney and her husband, Patrick, and their children, Kaitlyn and Patrick Jr.; a brother, Richard Hughes and his wife, Carol; two sisters, Shirley Lowe and her husband, Bill, and Bessie Gray; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Hughes; and a plethora of nephews, nieces and family. He will also be remembered by his girlfriend, Maureen Gormley.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, where funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. Burial with military honors will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at
