BANGOR – Marion B. Lyons, 89, died July 31, 2011, at a local hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Millinocket, daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Hatfield) Hope.
Marion was a state and international officer of Loyal Ladies Orange Lodge and an officer of American Legion Auxiliary Donald V. Henry Post No. 80, both of Millinocket. She was also a member of Harraseeket Grange of Freeport. Marion was recognized for her dedication in providing home health care. She was an avid supporter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed watching and participating in their lives. Marion was an important part of their lives and helped mold them to become the adults they now are. She cherished watching her great-granddaughters’ academic, musical and sporting events, and was appointed the “No. 1 Fan.” Gram’s presence will be missed by other fans, athletes and sporting officials.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Karl Edward Burby and his wife, Linda, of North Carolina, Catherine Leavitt and her husband, Walter, of Old Town, Teresa Kelley and her husband, George, of Hermon, and Patience Coon and her husband, Robert, of Winterport; four great-grandchildren, Karl “Sandy” Burby, Paul Leavitt, Ashley Kelley and Marisa Kelley; one brother, Gordon Dean Hope and his wife, Hazel, of Bangor; and two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Burby of Millinocket, and Janice Heath and her husband, Ivory, of East Millinocket. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Lyons; her son, Richard Burby; and one sister, Dawn Madore.
