BAR HARBOR – Jean Margaret (MacLeod) Willis, 80, died Aug. 1, 2011, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1930, at home in Bar Harbor, to Ellis R. and Marion M. (Tuck) MacLeod.
Jean graduated from Bar Harbor High School, Class of 1948. She went on to work as a secretary for CE Marcyes Insurance Co. until her marriage to Weston Willis, Sept. 10, 1950. She was also a big part of the family business, Willis’ Rock Shop. Jean was a 50-year member of Bar Harbor Congregational Church, where she sang in the junior choir and taught Sunday school. She was a Y-teen mother at the YWCA and a Cub Scout den mother. She was also a member of Oakmont Village Association at Hideaway Country Club, Fort Myers, Fla. Jean was a kind and gentle mother and grandmother, who was devoted to family. As anyone who knew her would say, she had a huge heart for each and every person who was lucky enough to be part of her life.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Lois M. (Willis) Wade; son and daughter-in-law, Roger W. and Cheryl (Prostak) Willis; one brother, James C. MacLeod; four grandchildren, Weston Alexander Wade, Andrew Benjamin Wade, Lily Morgan Willis and Jake Edward Willis; three nieces, Kathryn MacLeod, Deanna Willis and Nancy Myers; and stepgrandchildren, Melanie Wade Luttman, Kirsten Wade Little and Benjamin P. Wade. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Weston M. Willis; a son-in-law, Benjamin A. Wade; sister-in-law, Jane MacLeod; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clayton and Geraldine Willis.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Sandra M. Reed officiating. Interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
