EAST MILLINOCKET and FRANKFORT – Kathleen R. (MacDonald) Crawford, 91, died peacefully Aug. 2, 2011, at her home after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 6, 1919, in East Millinocket, daughter of John and Mary (Sullivan) MacDonald.

Kathleen graduated valedictorian of her class at Schenck High School. She then attended Wilfred Academy Hair and Beauty Culture, Boston. She for the most part was a lifelong resident of East Millinocket, a faithful communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a member of St. Anne’s Circle Daughters of Isabella. Kathleen was a devoted homemaker and wife to her husband of 64 years, James, and a loving mother to her five children. Mammie spent many hours baking her signature date squares, Hello Dollies, peanut butter balls and chicken pies, to be enjoyed and looked forward to by all.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James P. Crawford, in 2004; son, James Jr., in 1999; four sisters, Marie Lyons, Maude Gallant, Nellie Purcell and Lucille St. Peter; and five brothers, John, Leonard, Ronald, Everett and Llewellyn MacDonald. She is survived by a son, Robert and wife, Sharon, of Sherman; three daughters, Kathleen McFarland and husband, Doug, of Frankfort, Maureen Dow and husband, Walter, of Glenburn, and Eileen Annis of Prospect; her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mammie,” Sherry, Bobby and Tony Crawford, Angela and Dougie McFarland, Linda, Jennifer and Mikey Dow, and Ryan and Kristen Annis; 17 great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on the day of her birth 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket. Interment will be immediately after the Mass at East Millinocket Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Kathleen’s honor may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
