GLENBURN – Nate Ewer, 64, went to be with the Lord Aug. 3, 2011, while he slept at his home. He was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Caribou, son of Edward J. Trombley and Barbara O. (Wilson) Swetnam.

Nate graduated from Hampden Academy, class of 1965. After high school he proudly served as a member of the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Betty (Chute) Baker, June 16, 1973, and together they owned and operated the Ewer Kitchen Center, where he earned the reputation as a well-respected kitchen designer in the Bangor area for more than 30 years. In his retirement he served as director of Inter-Church Ministries, working with more than 400 rural churches in Maine and New England. Those who knew Nate knew of his devotion to the Lord and his involvement as a youth minister at Hudson Baptist Church for 20 years. Who can forget the yearly canoe trips down West Branch, climbing Katahdin, ice skating, bonfires at his home on Pushaw Lake and his endless stories about the “brick” and the “carrot.” Nate loved Maine and enjoyed reading and collecting Maine books, Bangor bottles, stamps, puzzles, etc. Nate loved to hunt and fish, and spent countless hours with close buddies, Carlton and Harry, and his grandchildren, serving up his famous chili at hunting camp, making coffee for the many visitors to shacksville or trout fishing in one of his many canoes stashed on remote ponds in the middle of nowhere. His only rule was if the boat tips rescue his hat, the kids and then the fishing equipment … in that order.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his beloved dog, Foggy. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Betty (Chute) Ewer; his children, David Baker and his wife, Mary, Tony Ewer and his wife, Mary, Nathan and his wife, Glenda, and Heidi (Ewer) Townsend and husband, Brandon; four grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah and Aaron Baker and Taylor Anne Townsend; brothers, Philip, Steven and Jeff; sisters, Judy and Karen; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call noon-2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Route 2, Hermon, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Garnett Chute and the Rev. Harry Straub officiating. The family invites friends and relatives to share in conversation and refreshments immediately after in the church fellowship hall. A private family interment will be held. Those who wish to remember Nate in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Inter-Church Ministries, 1492 Pushaw Road, P.O. 7047, Bangor, ME 04401.
