BUCKSPORT – Margaret A. Wescott, her deceased husband Earle’s beloved “Maggie,” passed away in her sleep early the morning of Aug. 4, 2011, at a Bangor hospital, from cardio-pulmonary complications after surgery. Margaret Adeline Allen was born April 30, 1922, to Ethel and Frank Allen of Aroostook County.

Margaret is survived by her son, Earle “Skip”; daughters, Sharon, Martha and Ellen; their spouses, Sharon Curran-Wescott, Jamie Wangeline and Davis Koier; grandchildren, Maggie, Davis, Skye, Cory and Abby “Doodles”; her brother, Paul Allen; sister, Carol Foss; along with nieces and nephews galore. Her brothers, Raymond, John, Mansfield and Kenneth; along with sisters, Mary Holmes, Dorothy Werner and Ethel Mae Burgess, predeceased her.

The family moved to Bucksport around 1930, where Margaret attended school, graduating from Bucksport High School in 1941, along with sweetheart and future husband, Earle. They married in 1943 when Earle was a cadet in the Army Air Force, and lived briefly in Ohio, Texas and Washington state. After the war they returned to Maine, where Earle completed his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, and then it was off to Connecticut for work and life, and later New Hampshire and finally back to Maine. Sustained by faith, family and friends, Margaret was brave in the face of challenges – towards the end there were many – and compassionate and kind to others, especially those in need. A devoted Catholic, Margaret contributed to the church through her sewing and cooking skills and tireless energy. Her religion was in her heart and works.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Franklin Street, Bucksport. A reception will be held after Mass in the parish hall. Interment will take place after the Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Silver Lake Road, Bucksport. In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, P.O. Box S, Bucksport, ME 04416.
