PRESQUE ISLE – Richard G. Beckwith, 77, passed away peacefully Aug. 7, 2011, surrounded by his family at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness with renal failure. He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Presque Isle, son of Kenneth G. and Margaret (Willette) Beckwith.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Richard was an employee of National Cash Register Co. – NCR, as a field technician and sub-office manager, retiring after 37 years of service. He had many fond memories of fellow employees at Presque Isle, Bangor and NCR’s training facility at corporate headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. He was an avid fisherman, building his own fly rods and tying flies. He spent many enjoyable hours fishing for Atlantic salmon in Canada on the Matane and Matapedia rivers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arlene (Estey) of Presque Isle; three sons, Paul Beckwith of Manchester, N.H., David Beckwith of Presque Isle and Patrick Beckwith of Presque Isle; daughter, Susan Currier and husband, Brian, of Auburn, Ga.; grandchildren, Amy Coffman and husband, Matthew, of Bethlehem, Ga., Madalyn Currier of Auburn, Ga., Matthew Beckwith of Presque Isle, and Kathryn Beckwith and great-granddaughter, Andy Salas, of Quito, Ecuador; and one brother, Jon Beckwith of Presque Isle. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, E. James Beckwith. The family wishes to express their appreciation for all of the care he received in Bangor and County Dialysis, Presque Isle.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Michael Shaw officiating. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Online condolences may be expressed at
