FORT FAIRFIELD – Thorvald A. Turner, 81, husband of the late Ruby Ellen (McMann) Turner, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 7, 2011, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after an extended and brave battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Plasterock, New Brunswick, son of Archie W. and Elizabeth Mable (O’Connor) Turner.

He attended Plasterock (New Brunswick) schools and was married to Ruby Ellen McMann, April 19, 1949. He was a member of Fort Fairfield United Pentecostal Church for many years, was a member of Souls Harbor, Corinth, and enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, Thorvald was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Ellen Turner, Feb. 14, 2008; one brother, Urban Turner; and three sisters, Verna Manscill, Phyllis McEwen and Barbara P. Tomlinson. He is survived by three sons, Terry Turner of Sanford, Christopher Turner and his wife, Vickie, of Fort Fairfield, and William H. Turner and his significant other, Jane Plourde, of Framingham, Mass.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Ann and Gary Brooker of Presque Isle, Brenda and Clayton Jackson of Tennessee, Judy M. and Ron Dinsmore of Caribou, Jennia Lynn and Doug Morrell of Caribou, and Tammy and Domenick Flacco of Springvale; grandchildren, John Brooker of Oroville, Calif., Trish Beals of Fort Fairfield, Raymond C. Turner of Londonderry, N.H., Michael Doucette of Presque Isle, Adam J. Turner of Waldoboro, Allyson Plummer of Washburn, Zachary Dinsmore of Caribou, Jessica and Erik Jandreau, both of Caribou, Amanda Yeram of California, Lillian Chick of Springvale, and Justin Little of Wyoming; great-grandchildren, Tiana, Josh and Kalie Brooker, Noah Turner, Logan Yeram, Hailey Diefenbach, Wyatt Beals, and Brady Jandreau; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at United Pentecostal Church, 37 Currier St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Harry Lewis officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
