ORRINGTON – Pauline “Polly” G. Bennett, 93, wife of the late John “Don” Bennett, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011. She was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Brewer, the oldest daughter of Vernon and Beulah (Hardison) Smith.

Pauline graduated from Bangor High School in 1935 and Eastern Academy of Beauty Culture in 1936. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Orrington and was treasurer of United Methodist Women for 32 years. Pauline was a member and past district deputy of Vashti Rebekah Lodge for more than 60 years. She was a beautician, a homemaker and a community volunteer. She enjoyed flower arranging, quilt making, and knitting mittens for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Pauline was predeceased by her husband, John Donald Bennett; sister, Geneva Whiting; brother, Glendon Smith; and special daughter-in-law, Laurie Bennett. She is survived by sisters, Louise Perkins and husband, Raymond, of Orrington and Glenice Sawyer of Orrington; children, Wayne Bennett and wife, Sharon, of Camden, Donna Bennett Golding of Orrington, Sharon Bennett Caron and husband, Allen, of Orrington and John V. Bennett and companion, Betty Keller, of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, John C. Bennett, Kimberlee Bennett, Ronald Caron and wife, Donna, Daniel Caron and wife, Cathy, Michael Golding and wife, Heidi, Karen Smith and husband, Duane, and Carolee Sherwood and husband, Dave; 10 great-grandchildren, Erika Golding, Jeffrey Golding, Joshua Golding and wife, Adalene, Zachary Caron, Shelby Caron, Charlotte Caron, Darren Smith, Benjamin Sherwood, Jackson Sherwood and Davin Sherwood; and one great-great-grandson, Ryker Golding.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Brookings-Smith Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Brenda Leclerc, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Orrington, officiating. After the service relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and light refreshments at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Interment will be afterward at Dean Hill Cemetery, Orrington. Those wishing to remember Pauline in a special way may make gifts in her name to First United Methodist Church of Orrington, P.O.
