LOWELL, Mass. – Ralph A. Cookson, 84, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011. Born in Maine, he was the son of the late Albert and Mable Cookson.

Educated in Maine, Ralph was happily married for 56 years to Genieve I. (Speed) Cookson. He enjoyed working for Maine Central Railroad on steam locomotives and was a machinist for Pratt & Whitney aircraft jet engines. He retired after working 30 years for Fernald State School as an administrator of the farm and grounds. He influenced and guided many people in the right direction, which changed their lives forever. He loved to make others happy. He always had a big garden!

Surviving him is his son, Robert Cookson and wife, Beatrice, of Massachusetts; his daughter, Katherine (Cookson) Stuck and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Tiffany and Bryan of Florida; a brother, Albert Cookson of Maine; and sisters, Mildred Genthner of Florida and Lillian Wright from Massachusetts. He was predeceased by brothers, James and Norris Cookson of Maine.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 15 at Bradford Baptist Church.
