MILLINOCKET – Nathan Clifford Preston, 85, died Aug. 14, 2011, at Millinocket Regional Hospital. He was born June 15, 1926, in Somesville, son of Hugh B. and Velma L. (Gray) Preston.
After high school Nate served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986. He was a man who loved the power of the written word and enjoyed being outdoors in the fresh Maine air.
Nate is survived by his wife of 33 years, Claudette H. (Pelkey) Preston; his son, Mark A. Preston and his wife, Andrea, of East Hampton, N.J.; his daughters, Sandy Willmott and her husband, Dan, of Lincoln, England, and Wendy Preston-Ward and her husband, Ken, of Lamoine; two grandchildren, Alexander Willmott and Elan Ward; two great-grandchildren, Roksana and Felix Willmott; four stepchildren, Jeanie Dramby and her husband, Jim, of Ellicott City, Md., Dennis and his wife, Julie Ayotte, Allan and his wife, Karen Ayotte, all of Millinocket, and Debbie Ayotte of Winterport; many stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren. Nate will also be remembered by many friends and relatives, including the staff at Stearns Assisted Living Center, Millinocket; his cousin, George; his friend, Katie; and a special great-stepgranddaughter, Alyssa.
Friends are welcome to call 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where services will begin 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Millinocket Cemetery, Millinocket.
