LINCOLN – Ivan Gerrish Mallett, 92, passed away peacefully Aug. 16, 2011. He was born July 8, 1919, the son of Hollis and Helena (Pickering) Mallett.

Ivan graduated salutatorian of the class of 1936 at Lee Academy and was a graduate of Maine School of Commerce/ Husson University with a degree in business administration. He was treasurer of Lincoln Trust Bank for several years prior to starting his own forestry operations business, retiring as a woodland manager in his 80s. In addition to caring and providing for his family while spending time with them at Silver Lake and No. 3 Pond, Lee, he truly enjoyed fishing and hunting every season. He was thrilled to catch the first Atlantic salmon of the year in 1981 after the Penobscot River had been revitalized and was invited to Washington, D.C., to present it to Vice President George H.W. Bush at the White House. Ivan and Phyllis enjoyed their friends in Zephyrhills, Fla., and their many years of traveling to square dancing and holiday rambler events. In 1998 he co-authored a Mallett history with his siblings entitled “Recollections of Bygone Days.” Throughout his life, he was involved in various organizations, including Lincoln Congregational Church Men’s Club, Penobscot County Conservation Club, and was a lifetime member of Penobscot Salmon Club and Eddington Salmon Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Craig Mallett of Lincoln; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Mallett of Lee; a sister, Ruth Taylor of Lincoln; his daughters, Joan and her husband, Richard Leen, and Mary Jean and her husband, Gary Bies; grandchildren, Marianne and her husband, Pat Cariglio, Angela and her husband, Blair Shea, Shawn and her husband, Tim Dumark, Britan and her husband, Freddy Cheney, Denise and her husband, Tim Hanson, and Brian Bies; great-grandchildren, Anthony Cuppernell Shea, Brooke Shea, Shawn Cariglio, Jaxen Cheney, Zachary Hegvik, Tyler Hegvik, Adison Morinville and Elijah Morinville; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife of more than 60 years, Phyllis (Achorn) Mallett; a brother, Howard Mallett of Lee; and a sister, Myra Snyder of Lincoln and Worcester, Mass.

Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with a service to be held 2 p.m. There will be a reception immediately after the service at the funeral home. A family burial service will be held after the reception at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
