BUCKSPORT – William H. Bennett, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 29, 1926, on Verona Island, son of Davis M. and Margaret F. (Fish) Bennett.
Bill enjoyed entertaining with his quick wit and violin, entertaining at various functions. He was a member of Elm Street Congregational Church, a Mason of Felicity Lodge No. 19, Bucksport, and Verona Grange No. 206.
He is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Provost of Bradley; four grandchildren, Mark Provost and wife, Betty, of Orland, Brenda Campbell and husband, Bruce, of Orland, Shawn Provost of Orland, and Ronda Adams and fiance, Shane Sirois, of Bradley; six great-grandchildren, Jenny and John Allen of Surry, Scott and Randy Provost of Orrington, and Emily and Anyslie of Bradley; one great-great-granddaughter, Emma Jean Allen of Surry; one sister, Madeline Sweet of Bucksport; one sister-in-law, Clara Donovan of Jonesport; one brother-in-law, Malcolm Donovan of Machias; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Bennett, his Irish rose; one brother, Davis Bennett Jr.; one sister, Evelyn L. Bennett; and son-in-law, Ron Provost.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Riverview Cemetery, River Road, Bucksport, with the Rev. Linda Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
