SUNSET and STONINGTON – Barbara Irene (Holmes) Bridges died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at a Blue Hill hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1924, on Swan’s Island, the daughter of William and Ruby (Stinson) Holmes.
Married to Melvin C. Bridges in 1940, the couple raised their four children, Cynthia, Connie, Doreen and Dick, in their Stonington home. The couple enjoyed many activities together, including dancing, having large holiday gatherings with family, and spending time at their summer cottage on Little Deer Isle.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at First Congregational Church of Deer Isle. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Oceanville.
