HOULTON and FORT KENT – May M. Jalbert, 93, passed away peacefully Aug. 24, 2011, at Houlton Regional Hospital with family by her side after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 3, 1918, in New Canada, eldest daughter of Hubald and Alice (Daigle) Cyr.

She and her loving husband of 65 years, Clarence William, enjoyed working the family farm together and tended their large garden, preserving much of the vegetables, and sharing with neighbors and friends. May was a wonderful homemaker whose love for the family and the caring of other always came before her own needs, wants and wishes. She will be remembered by many as a wonderful, sweet and gentle lady, of unsurpassed kindness. As an accomplished seamstress and perfectionist, she made suits and other very detailed clothing. Her quilts will be forever cherished by family. She spent countless hours knitting, much of which was donated to charity. May was a devoted, loving, hardworking wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sorely missed. May and her husband enjoyed the hobbies of cross-country skiing, square dancing and playing cards. She was employee of W.T. Grant, Fort Kent, for a number of years.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Mae and her husband, Arthur Wheaton, of Forest City and Summerfield, N.C.; one son, Thomas Jalbert and his wife, Judy, of Standish; along with eight grandchildren, Heather Wheaton of Summerfield, N.C., Holly and her husband, Shawn Reynolds, of Litchfield, N.H., Shane Wheaton and his wife, Nina, of Nottingham, N.H., Arynne Jalbert of Buxton, Jennifer Jalbert of Scarborough, Thomas Jalbert II and his wife, Ana, of Miami, Courtney Jalbert of Portland, and Taylor Jalbert of Standish; six great-grandchildren, Brooke and Tyler Reynolds, Eva, Ashlyn and Jacob Wheaton, and Sylvana Jalbert; sisters, Melissa Theriault and Rella Theriault, of Fort Kent, and Marie Daigle of Madawaska; and sister-in-law, Theresa Cyr of Pilesgrove, N.J. She leaves many special nieces, nephews and cousins. There was a special place in her heart for grandson, Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Jalbert, in 2007; one sister, Mildred Nadeau Murphy; and one brother, Richard Cyr.

Friends may call 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will be after at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the special Cerebral Palsy School, Morrison Center, 60 Chamberlain Road, P.O. Box 1539, Scarborough, ME 04070.
