HOULTON and CROSS LAKE TOWNSHIP – Lewis H. Durost Sr. died Sept. 3, 2011, in Houlton, with family by his side. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Centerville, New Brunswick, to Beverly and Lona (Orser) Durost.

He was an Army World War II veteran and he drove truck for 30 years for O’Donnell’s and Sanborn’s, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Avis (Hammond) Durost; a son, Louie and Debbie Durost Jr.; a daughter, Kristi and Jeff Worcester; a foster daughter, Vanessa and her friend, Marshall; an uncle, Clayton Orser; an aunt, Merise Culverwell; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Vaughn and Harold; and a granddaughter, Shanon.

Per his request there will be a graveside service. A procession will begin 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, from Dunn Funeral Home to Evergreen Cemetery, where the Army National Guard and the Rev. David Tuttle will give the committal. Donations in his memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research and Houlton Humane Society, care of Dunn Funeral Home.
