HARTLAND – Dana W. Carr, 82, died peacefully Sept. 6, 2011, in Bangor, with his loving wife at his side. He was born April 6, 1929, in Natick, Mass., a son of Winfield and Dorothy (Smith) Carr.
He graduated from Harmony High School, class of 1946. Dana worked the hotel circuit in Jefferson, N.H., where he met his wife, Marilyn, and Pompano Beach, Fla., before joining the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served aboard the USS Shea during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in January 1953. On Feb. 21, 1953, he married Marilyn Dorr in Hyattsville, Md. Dana was a crane operator for Norman Jackson in Pittsfield and Earland Cobb in Harmony. In 1959 he was employed as a lineman and later a foreman by TDS Telephone Co., retiring in 1992. He was a member of Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church and Triple C. Couples Club, both of Hartland. Dana enjoyed the Boston Red Soxs, playing golf, fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved his family. He enjoyed going to Florida in the winter and going to hunting camp in Harmony with his son, brothers and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Hartland; a son, Bradley and Dottie Carr; a daughter, Lynn and husband, David Dow; three brothers, Richard “Dick” and wife, Louise Carr, Gordon “Tink” and wife, Janice Carr, and Vernon “Tad” and wife, Dorinne Carr; two sisters, Dotty Barrows and Barbara Herrick; five grandchildren, Angela and husband, Matt Gleckman, Bradley Carr Jr. and fiance, Melissa Lemieux, Jackie Carr, Tammy and husband, Scott Pinnette, and Laurie and husband, Tim Landry; six great-grandchildren, Anna and Parker Gleckman, Nicole, Anthony, Nathan and Lauren Pinnette; special “adopted” grandchildren, Michelle Rooney, Tracy Noel and Simon Thorne; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many good friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Sharon Bunker; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Barrows, Clarence Herrick and Robert Bunker.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor James Boughman officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland.
