OLD TOWN and NAZARETH, Pa. – Maurice C. Duplessis, 88, died peacefully Sept. 7, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Old Town, second son of Beloni and Elmire (Mercier) Duplessis.

Maurice served his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked in several Old Town shoe factories for many years, but made his primary living as a carpenter. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid fisherman and loved to watch baseball and football, especially with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa (Fontaine) Duplessis; his brother, Eugene Duplessis; his daughter, Barbara Jackson, who was laid to rest only one week ago; and by his best friend, Ruth Kitchen of Nazareth. He is survived by three sons, Albert and his wife, Laura, of Old Town, James and his wife, Marie, of Orrington and Eugene and his wife, Judy, of Winthrop; one daughter, Leda Theriault and her husband, Mike, of Old Town; his daughter Barbara’s husband, Brian of Manchester; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A heartfelt thank you for the care he received from the staff of Orono Commons Nursing Home and to Pete for being a special friend.

At his request, there will be no visitation. However, family and friends may attend a burial service 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Riverside Cemetery, Ben-noch Road, Orono.
