PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU – Bessie H. McConnell, 83, died Sept. 17, 2011, at a Caribou health care facility. She was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Portage, daughter of Prescott K. and Bessie (Wilcox) Holmes.
Bessie had a great love for animals and could charm the loons on the local lakes. She enjoyed basket weaving and doing many other crafts.
Bessie is survived by her husband, James McConnell of Presque Isle; two sons, Gregory R. Blair of Florida and Roland E. Parker Jr. of Bangor; three daughters, Rebecca Blair England of Florida, Charlotte Blair Bennett of Tennessee and Kathy Parker Rendon of Florida; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Judson Holmes of California and John Holmes of Nevada; adopted brother, Eleiott Sutherland of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Ora Holmes Plourde and Glenna Holmes Cyr; and adopted brother, Ernest Strong.
Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Portage Lake Cemetery. Online condolences and guest book
