CARIBOU and GARDINER – Marie R. Johnston, 84, went home to be with the “love of her life,” her late husband, Wilfred H. Johnston on the morning of Sept. 14, 2011.

She was born Nov. 15, 1926, in St. David, daughter of the late Joseph and Susan (Sirois) Lagasse.

Marie was a very loving, caring, giving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with family and taking a lot of pride and joy in watching them grow. Marie was a life long member of Caribou Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She lived most of her married life in Caribou, moving to Gardiner the past two years to be with family.

Marie is survived by a son, Roger Johnston; daughters, Susan Johnston of Gardiner, and Joanne and her husband, Jim Deveau, of Terryville, Conn.; a “special daughter,” Carol Johnston of Caribou; and nine grandchildren, Shannon, Jason and Christian Deveau, Troy and Chad Johnston, all of Bristol, Conn., Aaron Martin and his wife, Heather, of Lebanon, Teasha Martin of Gardiner, Jared Johnston of Caribou, and McKenzie and her husband, Tyler Stevenson, of Wayne. Marie had 10 great-grandchildren that she was very proud of, Eben Martin of South Carolina, Olivia, Logan and Ethan Deveau, Karen and Athena Rayak, Victoria and Nicholas Johnston, all of Connecticut, and Wyatt and Issac Stevenson of Wayne. Marie also leaves behind one brother, Joseph R. Lagasse of Texas; three sisters, Irma Ouellette of Van Buren, Theresa Byram of Nebraska and Alma Hesse of California. In addition to her parents; and her husband, Wilfred, she was predeceased by a son, Robert W. Johnston; brothers, Gerald, Ned, Leonard and Emile Lagasse; and a sister, Eloise Belanger.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, with the Rev. Jean Paul Labrie officiating. Interment will be after the services at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. After interment, a reception will be held at Caribou VFW. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at
