ARLINGTON, Texas – James W. Callicutt died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011. He was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. James W. Callicutt had been associated with the profession of social work since 1953. He received his bachelor’s degree from Memphis State University, his master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State, and his doctorate from Brandeis University, Mass. He recently retired from the University of Texas at Arlington after 40 years of service, beginning in 1968, as a founding faculty member of the Graduate School of Social Work. Throughout his illustrious career he received the National Award of Social Work Pioneer and subsequently earned professor emeritus status.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Ben Carr of Denver; daughter, Cyndie of Aurora, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Susan of Joshua, Texas; son, Daniel of Thailand; and grandchildren, Raleigh, Evan and Rachel.
Memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Dr., Arlington, TX 76012. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington and Tarrant County Food Bank would be appreciated.
