ORLAND – James “Steve” S. Umel passed away unexpectedly Sept. 17, 2011. He was born Oct. 16, 1947, son of the late Marie Eva Umel and Gerado Umel.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Air National Guard, and a talented woodworker. But he was most at home when he was surrounded by his entire family.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Marie Elena Umel; and brothers, Gerado Umel and Michael Umel. He is survived by loving wife, Pamela Umel of Orland; son, Seth Umel and daughter in-law, Julie Umel, of Saco; daughter, Darcie Fournier and son in-law, Brent Fournier, of Milford; daughter, Angela King and son in-law, Adam King, of Stetson; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Jonathan, Camryn, Raegan, Natalie, Leah and Kelsea; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. Burial will be afterward at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
