PRESQUE ISLE – Gayla Susan Sprague, 61, a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loved ones by her side at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1949, in Presque Isle, daughter of Arthur and Rowena (Barnes) Rand.
Gayla loved to garden, can, cook and country music. She especially loved to spend time at the lake, travel with her family, loved the ocean and was fortunate to go there in June.
Gayla is survived by her life partner, Rodney Mills of Presque Isle; her mother, Rowena Rand of Presque Isle; her son, Dustin Sprague and his wife, Missy, of North Carolina; a daughter, Misty Miranda and her fiance, Reno Marquis, of Presque Isle; a sister, Barb Bubar and her husband, Fred, of Fort Fairfield; grandchildren, Tia, Trevor, Lexi, Kyler, Angie, Tylor, Destinee and Zack; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Higgins of Mapleton. Gayla was predeceased by her father, Arthur Rand; a baby sister, Rand; and her ex-husband, Ronald Sprague.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Donations may be made in support of her family to Misty Miranda, 15 Pond St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Online condolences may be expressed at
