PEMBROKE – David Thomas Skippar, 64, a longtime resident of Washington County, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at his home. Dave was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Escanaba, Mich., to Edwin and Lorayne (Nye) Skippar.
He was a proud alumnus of Michigan State University whose love of learning was evident in the way he lived his life. Dave chose careers that allowed him to teach, relate, and counsel with people to allow them to be successful in their goals and relationships. Dave was an accomplished martial artist in Tai Kwon Do; focusing on the philosophical and physical aspects of the art in his practice and teaching. He was a dedicated reader, striving to encourage learning in children and others with his passion and example. Dave’s lifelong love of water and the outdoors served as inspiration for his passion for scuba diving. His family remembers Dave as a kind man who was always focused on people.
He is survived by his father, Edwin of Mountain, Wis.; brother, Bruce Skippar and wife, Ann, of Douglas, Ariz.; sister, Sue McDonald and husband, Bob, of Tempe, Ariz.; nephew, Steve Skippar and wife, Colleen, of Mesa, Ariz.; and nieces, Kelly Koster and husband, David, of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Erin and Caitlin McDonald, both of Tempe, Ariz. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna; mother, Lorayne; and stepmother, Kathie.
