PITTSFIELD – Charles A. Sanborn, 50, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in Bangor, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 9, 1960, in Waterville, the son of George and Merita (Reynolds) Sanborn Sr.

He graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1979 and served our country in the U.S. Army. Charlie was employed for more than 20 years at Cianbro Corp., Pittsfield, and retired early due to his illness.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Dexter, and a member of Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge No. 2713. He liked playing darts and cards, especially poker. He enjoyed carpentry, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.

He is survived by his mother, Merita Sanborn of Pittsfield; his siblings, Suzette Noel and husband, Joseph, of Winslow, George Sanborn Jr. and wife, Rebecca, Marie Whitman and husband, John, Melissa Havey and husband, Zeke, all of Pittsfield, Melanie Sanborn and companion, Jason Lydem, of Winslow and Joe Sanborn of Pittsfield; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Cindy, Lisa, Steve, Dee, Jimmy, Bobby, Ernie and Buffy, and the girls. He was predeceased by his father, George Sanborn Sr. The family expresses their gratitude to Eastern Maine Medical Center Oncology staff, Dr. Pita, Dr. Bach and Lafayette Family Cancer Center, Brewer, for the wonderful, compassion care given to Charles.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Will Walters officiating.
