ORONO – Francina “Cena” Thurlow, 90, passed away Sept. 24, 2011, with family at her side. She was born March 5, 1921, in Houlton, daughter of James and Sylvia (Crosby) Gamble.

Cena, as friends and family knew her, grew up in Veazie and graduated from Bangor High School in 1941 and from Boston School of Dental Nursing in 1945. She always enjoyed the outdoors and was well known for her love of fishing, especially at her camp at Bottle Lake. Cena was a lifelong member of Girl Scouts of America and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a long time dedicated member of Veazie Congregational Church where she was involved in the ladies aide, trustees, diaconate, and ran the bean suppers for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Moose and her husband, Jack, of Orono, and Mary Briggs of Bangor; two granddaughters, Jennifer Kamman of Texas and Carrie Briggs of Orono; grandson, James Nolin of Texas; great-granddaughter, Shelby Kamman of Texas; sister, Sylvia Carolyn Brown of Veazie; numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roger Thurlow; granddaughter, Christina Nolin; grandson, Daniel Nolin; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Kamman; and brother, Eugene Gamble. Cena’s family gratefully thanks the staff of Orono Commons for the care they provided.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Veazie Congregational Church where family and friends may call noon-2 p.m. Burial and committal services will be afterward at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
