PALMYRA and STACYVILLE – Lamont “Sonny” “Stubby” Stanchfield, 80, died Sept. 29, 2011. He was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Guilford, the son of Milton and Ruth (Forbus) Stanchfield.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1950 to 1954 as a staff sergeant. He was retired from Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and was co-owner of Stanchfield’s Market. Stubby was an accomplished guitar player and made many friends through music throughout the years. In his later years he enjoyed teaching music and sharing his skills with young people.
He is survived by his children, Lora Stanchfield of Bangor, Kerry Stanchfield and his wife, Ingrid, of Gardiner and Stephanie Stanchfield of Augusta; six grandchildren, Matt Qualey and his wife, Laurie of Hampden, Justin Qualey and his wife, Keely, of Monroe, Hannah Dyer and her husband, Jake, of Old Town, Alex and Ethan Stanchfield of Gardiner and Deidrah Stanchfield of Augusta; two great-grandchildren, Callum Dyer of Old Town and Kyra Qualey of Monroe; sister, Doris Clukey and her family of Ripley; sister-in-law, Marion Stanchfield and family of Bingham; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Carolyn Langert and Robert and Valerie Fuller.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Lake Road Cemetery, Monson. A reception will be be held after the service at Monson Community Center.
