BIDDEFORD – Sister Renee Caron, formerly known as Sister Marcella, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at St. Joseph Convent at the age of 94. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Lawrence, Mass., a daughter of Carl and Angeline (Valcourt) Caron.
She attended St. Joseph Elementary School. After graduation from St. Joseph High School in the class of 1936 she entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Biddeford. Sister taught at Lincoln School, Grand Isle; St. Joseph School, Old Town; and St. Joseph High School, Lawrence, Mass. She was principal at Sacred Heart School, Van Buren. When she retired from classroom teaching she served as superior at St. John the Evangelist, South Portland, as well as St. Joseph Convent, Old Town, and also in Newton, Mass.
Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, and 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday in the convent chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.
