ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Linda Medeiros was called by our heavenly father Oct. 7, 2011, at John F. Keever Solace Center, Asheville, N.C. She was a survivor of breast cancer for the past 21 years.
She was predeceased by her son, Jason; and her parents, Susan and Norman Brilliant of Old Town. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Manuel Valeiro Medeiros of Asheville, N.C.; daughter, Denise Valeiro Medeiros and her husband, Jorge Mario Triana, and their daughter, Isabella Jae, of Charlotte, N.C., and grandson, who is due to be born in November 2011; sister, Norma Jean Brilliant of Portland; godson, Eron Gray of Brazil; goddaughters, Daniele Gray of Portland, Julie Cahill of Asheville, N.C., and Valerie Anderson of Pittsfield, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. The family extends their thanks to the staff at St Joseph’s Hospital and John F. Keever Solace Center for their wonderful care, and to Linda and Manny’s many friends for their prayers, support, food and love.
She was a graduate of Old Town High School and Empire State College in New York. Linda retired as administrative officer of Cortland County Mental Health Clinic in New York prior to moving to Asheville, N.C. She had many fond memories of her many friends in Cortland, N.Y. She was a gifted quilter and member of Wee-Bees Quilting Group, Asheville Quilters Guild and Asheville Symphony Guild, was a master gardener and volunteer at the Arboretum. She enjoyed working part-time at Southern Highlands Gift Shop at the Folk Art Center, her book club and hiking with friends. Max Patch and the Maine coast were among her favorite places.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at All Souls Cathedral, Asheville, N.C. Donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services – African Countries; Heifer International; John F. Keever Solace Center, Asheville, N.C.; or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals, Black Mountain, N.C.
