YORK BEACH – Raymond L. Wiggin, 91, of Long Beach Avenue, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. Raymond was a lifelong resident of York Beach. He was born March 20, 1920, son of the late Forrest C. and Emily Josephine (Everret) Wiggin.
He graduated from York High School in 1937 and McIntosh Business School in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Alice Catherine Gallagher of York, May 30, 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until the end of the war in 1945. Raymond will be remembered by all who knew him as a caring man who was devoted to his family and his church. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good game of cards, which he played with great skill. He loved fishing off the rocks at “The Nubble” with his brother, Richard. In later years he was devoted to the care of his mother and later to his wife, Alice.
He was predeceased by his fraternal twin brother, Richard Wiggin, in 1993; and by his wife, Alice, in April 2006. He is survived by his three children: sons, David Wiggin and his companion, Diane Schetky, of Rockport and Donald Wiggin and his wife, Violetta Wiggin, of Berwick, and his daughter, Dianne Wiggin of York Beach; his brother, John Calvin Wiggin and his wife, Sonya, of South Berwick; four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Union Congregational Church, Church Street, York Beach.
