BANGOR – John “Jack” H. Libbey Jr., 76, passed away, Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home. He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Bangor, son of John Harold and Madeline (Boulier) Libbey.
Jack served his country for a combined 20 years. He was enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1968, and the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1973. Upon retiring from the service he worked at Penobscot County Court House from 1977 to 1995. He had a passion for gardening and carpentry.
Jack is survived by two daughters, Lorie Smith of Indiana and Paula Young of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Ryan, Zach, Tori, Rhonda and Nicholas; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cynthia Libbey and Joan Scripture and her husband, James, of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Stearns and Margaret Martin; and brother, Robert Wolverton. Jack’s family thanks the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for their care and support.
A graveside service will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
