CANTON, N.Y. –The University of Maine-Fort Kent beat SUNY-Canton 4-1 on Saturday and 5-0 on Sunday in women’s soccer action to improve to 15-0.
Over the weekend, the Bengals also accepted a bid to the USCAA Soccer National Championships in Ashville, N.C. UMFK, the defending champs, will compete in the tourney on Nov. 3-6.
On Saturday, UMFK notched three first-half goals en route to victory. Jenn Colpitts, Whitney Sinclair and Theresa Biggs each tallied a goal in the first half for the Bengals. Donike Ferriera chipped in with a goal in the second half. Sydney Proctor made no saves on one shot on goal.
Colleen Fagan made two saves on six shots for Canton.
On Sunday, Sinclair scored two goals to spark UMFK.
Colpitts, Jamie Pelletier and Biggs each added a goal for the 15-0 Bengals. Proctor stopped all five shots she faced.
Holli-Jo Cota and Laura Pratt combined for five saves on 10 shots for 4-13 Canton.

E. Connecticut 2, USM 0
At Mansfield, Conn., Tamar Merheb and Danielle Marchitto scored second-half goals Saturday to pace Eastern Connecticut to a Little East Conference win.
Mackenzie MacLeod made one save on one shot for the Warriors (8-8, 5-1 LEC).
Kat Rothe made seven saves on 15 shots for the University of Southern Maine of Gorham (2-12-1, 0-4-1 LEC).

UMPI 3, Fisher 0
At Boston, Saturday, Chelsea Beauchemin scored two goals and Desiree Smith added one to lead UMaine-Presque Isle to victory.
Taylor Ussery recorded the shutout for 9-4 UMPI.

UMF 2, Johnson State 0
At Farmington on Saturday, Ava Amador set up second-half goals five minutes apart by Alida Peake and Katie Emmons as the Beavers beat the Badgers.
Crystal Johnson made six saves on eight shots for the University of Maine-Farmington (5-9-3, 4-4-1 North Atlantic Conference).
Amber McCullock made nine saves on 17 shots for Johnson State (8-5-2, 3-4-2 NAC).

Colby-Sawyer 1, Husson 0
At New London, N.H., Adrienne Bender booted home the rebound of Stephanie Huntley’s shot off the crossbar late in the first half Saturday, lifting the Chargers to the North Atlantic Conference victory.
Shalyn Spencer made seven saves on 11 shots for Colby-Sawyer (11-5-1, 7-0 NAC).
Jessica Poulin made three saves on 15 shots for Husson University of Bangor (7-10, 6-3 NAC).

St. Joe’s 1, St. Joseph (Conn.) 1
At Standish on Saturday, Patricia Nolan’s unassisted goal with 7:40 remaining gave Saint Joseph’s (Conn.) a double-overtime tie against hpst Saint Joseph’s College.
Katherine Chambers scored unassisted in the first half for the Monks (6-4-4, 5-3-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference). Jacqueline Lorenzen made seven saves on 17 shots.
Holly Mirabella made five saves on nine shots for the Blue Jays (11-5-1, 8-4-1).

UMM 4, Paul Smith’s 1
At Concord, N.H., Saturday, Cayla Thomas scored two goals to lead UMaine-Machias to victory.
Brittany Shultz and Kylnn Adams each added a goal for UMM and Nicollette Silva, Nikki Bennett and Jenny Guzman each recorded an assist. Stephanie Wunderley made one save on two shots.
Asenath Brooks made 11 saves on 14 shots for Paul Smith’s (N.Y.)

New Hampshire 2, Maine 0
At Durham, N.H., Sunday, the University of New Hampshire used two first-half goals to defeat the University of Maine in its season finale.
Brooke Duchaney and Stephanie Gilkenson each scored a goal for 5-11-2 New Hampshire. Erica Correa stopped two of five shots.
Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made five saves on 13 shots for the Black Bears, who end their season at 5-9-1.

Men’s basketball

UMFK wins two
At Fort Kent, the Bengals opened their season with a 77-59 over Mount Allison University of Sackville, New Brunswick, on Saturday and 64-58 over St. Thomas University of Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Sunday.
Othniel Hyliger paced UMFK on Sunday with 18 points and 15 rebounds and passed the career 1,000-point scoring mark. Jeremy Thomas chipped in with 16 points and five assists.
Corey Delong led St. Thomas with 14 points.
Jeremy Thomas hit 6 of 9 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead UMFK on Saturday. Hyliger chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds and Thomas grabbed nine rebounds. Kevin Monaghan and Benjamin Chisholm each scored 10 points for Mount Allison.

Men’s soccer
UMFK 0, SUNY-Canton 0 (2OT)
At Canton, N.Y., Sunday, the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the State University of New York at Canton battled to a scoreless tie through two overtimes.
The Bengals outshot the Roos 25-5. David Girouard made three saves for UMFK.
Homero Flores stopped 11 shots for SUNY-Canton.

UMPI 5, Fisher 2
At Boston, Saturday, Aaron Hutchins scored two goals and assisted on two to lead UMaine-Presque Isle.
Kyle Corrigan, Brandon Caverhill and Jeremy Tarr each added a goal for 4-9 UMPI. Fisher is now 0-12.

E. Connecticut 6, USM 0
At Gorham on Saturday, Sean Collins scored two goals and added an assist to power the Huskies to the Little East Conference win.
Matt Furman scored twice while Carl Stensland and Cory Tobler added a goal each for Eastern Connecticut (11-4-1, 6-0 LEC). Carl Appel made three saves on five shots.
Alex Charette and Ian Dollen-Oliveto combined to made three saves on 15 shots for the University of Southern Maine (3-13, 2-4 LEC).

St. Joe’s 3, Mount Ida 1
At Standish, Saturday, the Monks scored three unanswered second-half goals, two by Zach Johnson, to beat Mount Ida and secure the second seed in next Saturday’s playoff opener in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference against Suffolk.
Jack LaFreniere added a goal for St. Joe’s (11-5, 7-3 GNAC) and Kenny Grade made four saves.
Michael Templeton scored off a Carlos Rojas corner kick for Mount Ida (7-8-1, 4-5-1) and Matt Pils made four saves.

Paul Smith’s 2, UMM 1
At Concord, N.H., Saturday, Ryan Lawley’s goal at the 63:46 mark gave Paul Smith’s (N.Y.) the winning edge over UMaine-Machias.
Kris Wignes scored a first-half goal for UMM and Luis Herrera made four saves on 12 shots. Harrison Turk made one save on 12 shots for Paul Smith’s.

UMF 3, Johnson State 1
At Farmington on Saturday, Paul Dupre and Michael Kelly tallied a goal and an assist each to lift the Beavers to the North Atlantic Conference victory.
Kelly’s header off a Dupre cross put the University of Maine-Farmington (8-7, 5-3 NAC) ahead for good late in the first half. Jordan Hale scored an insurance goal off a Kelly assist. Derek Reilly made six saves on 11 shots.
Ryan Demars scored on a Richie Perez setup for Johnson State (4-11-1, 1-8 NAC). Ryan Belen and Patrick Fuller teamed up to make 10 saves on 27 shots.

Husson 4, Colby-Sawyer 0
At New London, N.H., Phil Frost scored a goal in each half Saturday as the Eagles locked up the North Atlantic Conference regular-season title.
Zach Emeigh scored off an Ahmed Abdirahaman assist for Husson University of Bangor (10-6-1, 8-1 NAC), while Andrew Austin notched an assist. The Eagles also scored on an own goal.
Mason Smith made three saves on 10 shots for Husson. Will Berry had six stops on 15 shots for Colby-Sawyer (5-10-1, 3-4-1 NAC).

Field hockey

Maine 3, Rutgers 0
At Amherst, Mass., on Saturday, Kelly Newton scored a goal and set up another to spark the 13th-ranked Black Bears to victory.
Alexa Binnendijk scored 14 minutes into the game off a rebound on a penalty corner, accounting for the only goal the University of Maine (15-3) would need. Newton scored off an Annabelle Hamilton pass and Megan Miller scored off a Hannah Keating assist.
Brittany Fleck made three saves for the Bears and Sarah Stuby made six saves for 4-11 Rutgers.

USM 2, Fitchburg 0
At Fitchburg, Mass., Kailey Bubier scored two minutes into the second half to lead the Huskies to victory over the Falcons.
Whitney McDaniel scored on an Ariel Kaplan assist for 8-10 Southern Maine of Gorham and Kayla Kennedy made nine saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
Taylor Begin made eight saves for Fitchburg State (7-8).

Castleton St. 4, St. Joseph’s 3
At Castleton, Vt., Kealy Chipman scored three goals Saturday to lift the Spartans to the North Atlantic Conference victory over the Monks.
Rachel Preusser’s goal gave Castelton State (10-7, 8-0 NAC) a 4-0 lead and the margin of victory. Bridget Dusha made one save for the hosts.
Peyton Dostie, Tara Cowin and Renee Leach (one assist) tallied a goal apiece for Saint Joseph’s of Standish (9-5, 7-1 NAC). Melanie Allen added an assist and Meaghan Johnson made nine saves.

Thomas 7, Rivier 1
At Nashua, N.H., on Saturday, Alei Collier scored twice to spark the Terriers to the North Atlantic Conference win.
Brittany Premo contributed a goal and an assist for Thomas College of Waterville (6-11, 4-5 NAC) while Brittany Moore, Bre Girard, Lauren Hachey and Callie Joseph netted a goal apiece. Alyssa Eugley, Minranda Tinsman and Kristin Masessa added assists.
Sofia Sourgiadakis and Jasmine Bishop combined to make 15 saves for the Terriers.
Molly Thagoouras scored for Rivier (6-11, 1-8 NAC) and Makenzie Flagg posted 14 saves.

Husson 6, Colby-Sawyer 2
At New London, N.H., Sabrina Vaillancourt scored a hat trick during a span of 8:18 in the second half Saturday as the Eagles pulled away to beat the Chargers.
Kara Poirier provided two goals and an assist for Husson University of Bangor (8-7, 4-4 North Atlantic Conference) and Mariah Arno added a goal and an assist. Chelsea Kondratowicz made 11 saves.
Alexa Comesanas scored both goals for Colby-Sawyer (3-12, 1-7 NAC). Colleen O’Hurley came up with five saves.

Women’s Hockey</span

Connecticut 3, Maine 0</span
At Storrs, Conn., the Black Bears outshot the Huskies 31-81 but went 0-for-6 on the power play Saturday.
Sami Evelyn, Rachel Farrel and Christine Brauer scored a goal apiece for 1-5-1 Connecticut (1-1 Hockey East). Kiana Nauheim, Sarah MacDonnell, Kelly Horan, Rebecca Hewett and Maggie Walsh all posted assists.
Nicole Paniccia made 31 saves for the Huskies.
Brittany Ott made 15 saves for UMaine (5-3, 1-1 HE).
