KENNEBUNKPORT – Alexander ‘Alec’ B. Cyr, 35, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever admired for his strength, courage and determination during his two-year battle with colon cancer. Alec was born Dec. 30, 1975, in Fort Kent.
He graduated from Bangor High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. He worked for many years in medical sales. His proudest moments in life were marrying his beloved wife, Heather DeMarco and becoming a father to his cherished son, Chase. Alec will always be remembered as a very loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. His infectious laugh and sense of humor always made him the life of the party. As an extreme outdoor enthusiast, you would often find him fishing on his boat out of Marston’s Marina on the Saco River, hunting, climbing Mount Katahdin and Mount Washington, mountain biking, snowboarding, camping, and vacationing in Acadia National Park. As a man of faith, he enjoyed being a member of Union Church, Biddeford Pool. He also enjoyed motorcycle racing at Loudon, N.H., renovating his beautiful home, and taking long walks with Heather, Chase and Millie on Goose Rocks Beach.
Alec is survived by his loving wife, Heather; his baby boy, Chase; his loving mother, Caryn Cyr of Glenburn; his beloved sisters, Tamrah Brown of Bangor and Charlotte Cyr of Kennebunk; his grandmother, Muriel Cyr of Fort Kent; his nephew, Stephen Cruson of Orono; and his in-laws who loved and cared for him as though he was always their own, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Susan DeMarco of Plainville, Mass.; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jill and Brian Coppney of South Boston, and Tina and Bob Counihan of Scituate, Mass.; and his golden retriever, Millie.
In celebration of his life, calling hours will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Union Church, 3 Stonecliff Road, Biddeford Pool, with Pastor Jan Hyrniewicz, celebrant. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery.
