JONESBORO and STEUBEN – F. Arlene Leighton Fickett, 86, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away Oct. 20, 2011, at DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk, Va. She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Steuben, to Ivo C. Leighton and Bertha Hodgkins Leighton.

Arlene was predeceased by husband, Harold T. Fickett Sr.; son, Donald L. Fickett Sr.; granddaughter, Tammy Jo Melton; sister, Mary Leighton Morse; and half sisters, Vera Farren and Katherine Lesiou. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Radtke and husband, Eugene, of Norfolk, Va., and Sandra Johnson and husband, David, of West Warwick, R.I.; three sons, Harold T. Fickett Jr. “Tom” and companion, Nancy Houston, of Hampton, Va., William H. Fickett and companion, Gail Robertson, of Biddeford, and Robert A. Fickett of Seabrook, N.H.; one half sister, Cheryl Leighton; special daughter-in-law, Elaine Fickett Cale of Whiting; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, David and Carol Huntley of Buxton.

Arlene was a lifetime member of Cherryfield Baptist Church, Cherryfield; a member and first president of Whitneyville Public Library, 1966; the town treasurer for Whitneyville, for many years; and an alternate postmistress for the county. During her stay of 20 years in Whitneyville, she participated in many of the town’s and county’s events. She particularly enjoyed her bridge club.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 220 Court St., Machias, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Jonesboro.
