BAR HARBOR – George R. Lambert Jr., 89, died Oct. 22, 2011, in Bar Harbor. He was born April 10, 1922, in Bar Harbor, son of George R. and Susan F. (McSorley) Lambert Sr.
He graduated from Bar Harbor High School, class of 1942. George served in U.S. Army during World War II as technical sergeant, Cannon Company, 389th Infantry Regiment and section chief in the European Theater. He was among the first soldiers to receive the Expert Infantrymans Badge. He was a 100th Century Division Ranger. George worked for Bar Harbor Water Co. for many years, retiring as superintendent in 1987. He was a captain with the fire department, served on the town council, was a Rotarian and member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. George enjoyed time spent with his family and friends at his cottage on Long Pond.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Claire; sons, George R. Lambert III of Bar Harbor, and Jeffrey F. Lambert and wife, Denise, of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Melissa Sue Anderson of Cape Elizabeth and Leslie Jean Lambert of Stonington; sister, Sadie Cunningham; sister-in-law, Barbara Lambert, both of Bar Harbor; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, James Lambert; brother-in-law, Ralph “Joe” Cunningham; and niece, Diane (Cunningham) Nadeau.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
