DEER ISLE – Elizabeth Margaret Farmer, 97, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 21, 2011. She was born Dec. 2, 1913, on Cranberry Island, daughter of Joseph White and Carrie Howard.

Margaret was the beloved wife of Harley Farmer until his death in 1972. Margaret lived most of her life in Stonington then moved to Deer Run Apartments, Deer Isle, before residing at Island Nursing Home. She devoted many years of her life to cleaning homes in Stonington and Deer Isle. Margaret also dedicated many years to Edgar Crozier’s seafood business, picking crab and lobster meat. She worked tirelessly at many different jobs, and with great humor once commented the only job she had never done was clamming. Margaret became a dedicated member of Galilean Gospel Church in 1973, where she lovingly taught Sunday school for several years. Although Margaret never had children of her own, she and Harley raised his granddaughter, Beverly Ray Oliver of Stonington.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Rita Fitch of Beverly Hills, Fla.; many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by countless family members and friends.

A memorial graveside service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held noon Saturday, Oct. 29, at Evergreen Cemetery, Stonington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Island Nursing Home, 587 North Deer Isle Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
