MACHIAS – Dale Harlan Emery, 78, died peacefully Oct. 22, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Veazie, son of Delbert H. and Stella J. (Worcester) Emery.
He attended school in Bangor and Machias. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was self-employed, working at various jobs, mostly in the woods as a truck driver. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping.
He is survived by a brother, Wayne of Machias; a sister, Marilyn Hanscom of Levant; a special friend, CarolAnn Smith of Jonesboro; special nieces, Denise Sullivan of Whitneyville, Danette Smith of Bangor, Diane Hanscom of Brewer and Elaine Brissette of Virginia; special nephews, Douglas Emery, Donald Emery and David Emery, all of Jonesboro, Kent Hanscom of Bangor, Michael Emery of Massachusetts; several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Delbert; and a nephew, Dennis Emery.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias, with a time of fellowship afterward at Whitneyville Community Center. Arrangements are in the care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
