BANGOR and EXETER – Paul A. Eaton, 75, passed away peacefully Oct. 28, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born May 10, 1936, in Exeter, the son of Orrin and Alice (Avery) Eaton. He was the youngest of a family of seven.
He worked at several local factories throughout the years and worked as a millwright for New England Regional Council of Carpenters, but he was the happiest when driving trucks hauling gravel or potatoes for local businesses. Like his father, he was busy with his hands, and enjoyed tinkering in the back garage on the farmstead. He liked stopping by the small streams to catch a brook trout, gardening, playing his guitar and singing his favorite country tunes. He was truly the happiest when living on the hill in Exeter. He was fondly known as “Papa” by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Crowell); his son, Kevin and wife, Barbara (Metivier) Eaton, of Bangor; daughter, Lori-Ann and husband, Charles Erickerson Jr., of Detroit; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Joel Stedman of St. Albans, Dennis Eaton of Corinna, Paul Downing of Pittsfield, Sarah and Ivan Bates of Exeter; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Maynard and Shirley Eaton of Exeter; sister-in-law, Carlene Eaton of Exeter; several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by brothers, Karl and Millard Eaton; three sisters, Dorthy Chambers Reed, Marilyn Cossar Fitzherbert and Claudine Rankin Richard; nephew, Reginald Chambers; and great-niece, Colleen King. The family expresses special thanks to Eastside staff and Beacon Hospice.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Morse’s Corner Cemetery, Corinna. After the service there will be a gathering noon-2 p.m. at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center, 516 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor. Donations may be sent to Beacon Hospice, 304 Hancock St., Suite 3A, Bangor, ME 04401.
