PROSPECT HARBOR and WINTER HARBOR – Donald passed away peacefully Nov. 5, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Whitneyville, son of Lee I. Sr. and Elizabeth (Palmer) Smith.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked several years in construction, before settling into the fishing industry where, for more than 40 years, he managed wharves in Corea, Steuben and Prospect Harbor, until he retired in 2004. He was an active member and past master of Masonic Lodge No. 192 of Winter Harbor, and member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor and Anah Lobster Boat Unit.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia (Lowell) Smith; and four daughters, Gail T. Smith, Lynn Whalen and husband, Bruce Rich, Eva Smith and partner, Kenneth Eaton, and Kathy Robinson and husband, Wayne; and grandson, Dakota Wayne Robinson; siblings: brother, Irving and wife, Margaret Smith, sisters, Doris Grant and Alice Grace, and brother, Horace and wife, Gerry Smith; special sisters-in-law, Lorraine Smith and Judy Smith; mother-in-law, Elaine A. Lowell; brother-in-law, Herbert and wife, Rita Lowell; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald was predeceased by daughter, Janet Smith; father and mother, Lee I. Sr. and Elizabeth (Palmer) Smith; sister, Leah Smith; brothers, Ralph, Eben and Lee I. Jr.; father-in-law, George W. Lowell Jr.; brother-in-law, Bradley and wife, Rebecca Lowell; brothers-in-law, Richard Grace and Liston Grant; sister-in-law, Pearl Smith; and special cousin, Iomogen Leighton. A very special thanks to the medical staff of Gouldsboro Medical Center, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Narraguagus Bay Nursing Home.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. Burial will be at Steuben Village Cemetery.
