WASHBURN – Marjorie C. (Maynard) Howe, 89, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, surrounded by family and a caring nursing staff at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Presque Isle, eldest daughter of Leon and Vinnie (Alley) Maynard.
Mom lived a full, happy and contented life. Mom had many talents in addition to raising a family of eight children. She was a wonderful cook, sewed, crocheted and knit mittens, hats, scarves and socks for RSVP for many years. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to church Sunday mornings and when she couldn’t drive, a couple neighborhood ladies would give her a ride.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Howe) and husband, Albert Van Scooter, of Washburn; sons, Richard Howe and wife, Joan, of Wade, Freeman Howe and wife, Phyllis, of Presque Isle, Donald Howe and girlfriend, Donna, of Pilot Point, Texas; son-in-law, Henry LaPointe of Riverside, Calif.; three daughters-in-law, Barbara Howe of Denton, Texas, Charlotte Howe of Mapleton and Gloria Goodwin of Presque Isle; sister, Clara Porter of Presque Isle; sister-in-law, Charlene Maynard of Washburn; 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a loving husband of 73 years, Millage F. Howe, in 2002. Mom and Dad had many years of camping and fishing, which they both loved. She was also predeceased by two sons, Gary Howe of Presque Isle and Thomas Howe of Mapleton; two daughters, Lillian (Howe) LaPointe of Riverside, Calif., and Shirley (Howe) Smith of Caribou; three brothers, Perley, Kenneth and Jack Maynard; one sister, Helen Conroy; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Porter and Shirley Conroy; two sisters-in-law, Thirza Martin and Nancy Maynard; and son-in-law, Robert Smith of Caribou.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, with the Rev. Kenneth Fox officiating. Interment will be after the service at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her honor to a charity of choice.
