HOULTON – Mary “June” L. Joseph, 71, died Nov. 9, 2011, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, the daughter of Walter and Francis (Deveau) Sabattis.
June was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church and a member of Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, where she had served on the Tribal Council. June had many joys in her life, spending time with her family, many nights of poker, bingo and crocheting. She was a great family historian and her family was her greatest love, she had an open door policy in which she opened her home to anyone and was everything to everyone.
June is survived by her husband, John Joseph Sr. of Houlton; three sons, Patrick Joseph of Alaska, John Joseph Jr. and David Joseph, both of Houlton; three daughters, Mary Tomah of Monticello, Tina Beaver of Hodgdon and Carolyn Joseph-Deveau of Houlton; five brothers, Leonard Sabattis of Easton, Clair Sabattis, James Sabattis, Douglas Sabattis, all of Houlton, and Paul Sabattis of Alaska; five sisters, Betty Joseph of Houlton, Linda Bell of Belleville, Carol Saluski of Connecticut, Margaret Sabattis of Houlton and Deborah Bauldwin of Connecticut; 11 grandchildren, Rhonda Ireland, Courtney London, Alexandra London, Brittney Cunningham, Daniel Devoe, Lenard Devoe Jr., Olivia Devoe, Georgia Sheeves, Joshua Toner, Joseph Toner and Michelle Lindsay; 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Sally Joseph Lindsay; and two sisters, Veronica Joseph and Joanne Valintine.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
