BANGOR – Richard Vaughn Cote, 79, died Nov. 11, 2011, at his home. He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Caswell, the son of Warren J. and Cora E. (Turner) Cote.
Richard attended Limestone schools and was a member of the U.S. Army. Richard married Alice Smilie, Dec. 30, 1964. He was a loving husband and very caring father. Richard especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He liked fishing, and most of all watching his sons play softball. Richard was an automotive mechanic most of his life. He was a member of American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Sheldon Cote. Surviving in addition to his wife of 46 years, Alice (Smilie) Cote, are his five sons, James R. Cote and his wife, Katrina, of Levant, Johnny Lee Cote Sr. of Bangor, Richard Cote Rankin and Michael Cote Rankin of Ohio and Timothy Lyle Cote of Canada; his two daughters, Debra Myers of Ohio and Lori Lynn Cote of Canada; six grandchildren, Katy-Lee Cote, Miranda Jean Cote, Johnny Lee Cote Jr., Ashley Marie Cote, Jack Ryan Cote and Tyler James Cote; two sisters, Judith Ouellette of Hermon and Joan Stevens of Tennessee; and three brothers, Robert Cote and Roger Cote of Connecticut and William Cote of Limestone. The family thanks Hospice of Eastern Maine for the wonderful care provided to Richard.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor of First Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, at a later date.
