BRUNSWICK, Maine — An armed robber crashed a video game release party early Friday morning, according to Brunswick police, and investigators were continuing to search for a suspect as of Friday afternoon.
A Brunswick Police Department press release indicates that the robbery took place at approximately 1 a.m. at the GameStop store in Merrymeeting Plaza.
According to the video game chain’s website, the store stayed open late Thursday to participate in a special release party for a game called “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” which ran from 10 p.m. to midnight at stores across the country, including the Brunswick shop.
A call to GameStop was not returned immediately, and further information about how many customers or employees were there at the time was not available Friday afternoon.
The suspect reportedly showed a black, semi-automatic handgun, demanded cash and fled the scene on foot.
Police described the suspect as “a white male, 6 feet [tall], medium build, wearing a dark ‘hoodie’ with a dark leather jacket over it, faded blue jeans and dark athletic shoes.”
Anyone with information about the incident can call the Brunswick Police Department tip line at 725-6620, ext. 187.
