BRADLEY – Lester “Pop-Eye” “Jack” Joseph Richard, 79, died peacefully Nov. 14, 2011, surrounded by family at his residence after a 1 1/2-year battle with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Old Town, a son of Leo and LeLia (Nadeau) Richard.

Lester worked most of his life as a millwright, but his true passion was working in and with wood. His family believes that he had sawdust in his veins. He loved being outside, hunting and fishing. He loved his family first and foremost, and enjoyed spending time with his boys during spring fishing and at hunting camp.

Lester is survived by his wife, Karen (Stinson) Richard; six sons, William Richard and his wife, Cheryl, Michael Richard and his wife, Susan, Brian Richard and his wife, Ann, Steven Richard and his companion, Lorraine Dionne, Jason Rutherford and his wife, Julie, and Kris Rutherford and his wife, Charlene; 12 grandchildren, Kirby, Keegan, Emelie, Elizabeth, Danielle, Devan, Ryan, Brandon, Alexis, Colin, Rachel and Alyssa; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Gordon, Tom, Paul Ouellette and Franklin; and sisters, Marlene and Patty. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marie (Keegan); and brothers, Ronald and James. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the nurses of New Hope Hospice for their wonderful care and support.

Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. There will be no formal funeral service.
