BELFAST – Corliss A. Holland, 88, died Nov. 16, 2011, at a Rockport hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Stonington, the son of James and Daisy (Stockbridge) Holland.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Frank Hazeltine Post No. 43 American Legion and Northport Veterans of Foreign Wars. Corliss was a member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge, Belfast; First Baptist Church, Belfast; and the Gideons. He was a tugboat captain and a member of Lobsterboat Racing Association. He worked as a lobsterman most of his life and enjoyed lobster boat racing, winning many races with his boat, The Red Baron.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Lillian; an infant daughter, Christine; and a grandson, Travis R. Flagg. Survivors include his son, Glenn Holland and his wife, Cathy, of Belfast; his daughter, Sheila Dassatt and her husband, Mike, of Belfast; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at First Baptist Church, High Street, Belfast.
