HAMPDEN – Donald Goodwin Parsons, 88, passed away Nov. 15, 2011, at his home. He was born April 16, 1923, in Dixmont, son of William G. and Bessie (Tasker) Parsons.
Don’s family moved to Bangor, where he graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1942. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theatre until 1946, as a communications specialist. He married Joanna Mullins, in 1947, and they were married for 40 years until her death in 1987. Don lived in Hampden from 1947 until the time of his death. He served the community on Hampden Board of Selectmen for eight years and was a member of Hampden Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. Don retired in 1985 after 41 years as lineman with New England Telephone Co. He and his wife were the founders and owners of Hampden Floral from 1980 until 1998. He was a devoted loving father and grandfather, and a loyal, trustworthy friend to many. His interests were farming, gardening and family genealogy.
Surviving are his children: son, David G. and his wife, Pam Parsons, and daughters, Marcia Parsons and Mary Kilbride and her husband, Ernie Kilbride; and grandchildren, Sarah Parsons and her fiance, Matthew Mower, Andrew G. Parsons, Ernest Kilbride and Patrick Kilbride. He was predeceased by his wife, Joanna; and sisters, Velma Bush and Thelma Howes.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, private interment will be beside his wife at Corner Cemetery, Dixmont. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Donald’s memory may be made to Katahdin Area Council Boy Scouts, P.O. Box 1869, Bangor, ME 04402 to establish a campership fund for a Hampden Troop No. 41 scout.
