DEXTER – Rita B. (Goulette) Pooler Larson, 92, died Nov. 25, 2011, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born March 2, 1919, in Dexter, daughter of Mahile and Edith (Corette) Goulette.

Rita married Maurice Pooler and had three sons. Rita raised her three boys in the Pooler family home on Free Street and lived there for 70 years. A couple of years ago she moved to Fairway Knolls, where she had many friends, and recently moved to Dexter Health Care, due to failing health. She attended Dexter schools and was employed at Plummer Memorial Hospital for years, retiring when the hospital closed. She loved her home and did much of the work around it into her 80s. She even loved to mow her own lawn. She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter. Rita was a member of the Golden Age Club and enjoyed taking dance classes. At the Senior Olympic Games, she won three Gold Medals.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice Pooler, in 1947; and her second husband, Sherwood Larson, in 1973. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Pooler; a stepdaughter, Darlene Andrews; two brothers, Velair and Bernard; three sisters, Imogene Keene, Eleanor Mace and Connie Tetu. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Pooler and his friend, Diana Warren, Carroll Pooler and his wife, Christine, and Douglas Pooler and his wife, Sheila, all of Dexter; a stepson, Sherwood Larson Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Florida; a brother, Rudolph Goulette and his wife, Althea, of Dexter; a sister, Dorothy Graw of Florida; a sister-in-law, Esther Goulette of Garland; a brother-in-law, Ralph Tetu of Bangor; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Kent Oullette, celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Dexter. For an online guest register, go to
